U.S. National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) Microfilm: Manipulating Search Result Lists

Purpose of this guide is to show how to search for NARA microfilm in our catalog and on the National Archives site.

Manipulating Search Result Lists

No matter how you choose to search the NARA site for documents the way you manipulate the results list is the same.  By clicking on the triangles next to any of the column headers (highlighted below) the table will automatically sort the table by that parameter in either ascending or descending order.  The column headers include:

  • Publication Number
  • Publication Title
  • Record Group Number
  • Record Group Title
  • Number of Rolls/Fiche/Disks
  • Digital Availability

For example, if you wish to sort the list by Publication Title from A to Z click on the triangle pointing upward ONCE and the list will sort in ascending order.  Since there are 4,324 documents to sort it may take a few moments for the list to manifest.
